Germaine Franco appears as the cover feature of the Fall 2020 issue of Rice Magazine, her alma mater. In the article Germaine discusses her career in depth with author Lynell George (A Handful of Earth, A Handful of Sky). Lynell’s article covers Franco’s childhood growing up in the border town of El Paso, Texas where she played drums, percussion, and piano with multiple ensembles including the El Paso Youth Symphony, to studying music and anthropology at Rice University near her brother, artist Michael Petry, to moving to L.A to working alongside her mentor, John Powell.
