Germaine Franco’s Grammy Award-winning Encanto Suite was featured in On the Movies, a concert presented by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as part of the fifth annual Breaking Barriers Festival at Ravinia Festival in Highland Park, Illinois.
The program is co-curated by Ravinia Chief Conductor Marin Alsop and Oscar-nominated, Emmy Award-winning composer Laura Karpman, and shines a spotlight on women composers in film. Franco’s Encanto Suite appears within “The Female Lens” Suite alongside works by Shirley Walker, Rachel Portman, Hildur Guðnadóttir, and Chanda Dancy.
Guest conductor Chi-Yuan Lin, a Taki Alsop Conducting Fellow making her CSO and Ravinia debuts, leads the performance.
